Nurturing the next generation of architects at 24/Three

At 24/Three, we are deeply committed to supporting and shaping the future of architecture by engaging with and mentoring the next generation of architects and designers. Many of our team members actively contribute to architectural education through their involvement with universities across the East Midlands.

Our director, Shelly, and associate, James, regularly participate as guest critics at Nottingham Trent University. They offer valuable external perspectives on both the conceptual and final design stages of student projects, helping to broaden students' design thinking and problem-solving approaches.

Leah, an associate and talented project architect, leads a studio unit at the University of Nottingham's Part 2 apprenticeship course, focusing on urban design, retrofit, and mixed-use projects. Through her teaching, Leah encourages students to explore contemporary architectural challenges while guiding them through hands-on project work.

Philippa, one of our architectural assistants, is currently completing the L7 Architect Apprenticeship at the University of Nottingham. This program allows her to combine academic learning with practical experience at 24/Three, building essential skills while working towards her qualification as a licensed architect. The apprenticeship has been a welcome change to the architectural educational process – positive for both students and employers.

"Completing the apprenticeship at UoN has been invaluable to my professional development. Balancing study with real-world experience has prepared me for my future role in ways a full-time course couldn't. The apprenticeship breaks down financial barriers to becoming an architect, allowing students to earn while learning. The course has enhanced my knowledge, skills, and confidence, ensuring I’m ready to contribute meaningfully to the evolving architectural industry. I can’t wait to finally qualify (fingers crossed) at the end of 2025!"

Beyond our university involvement, 24/Three actively participates in the RIBA Future Architects Mentoring Scheme. By hosting sessions with undergraduate students, we provide insights into industry practices, answer questions about architecture as a profession, and offer guidance to those just beginning their journey.

As a young and dynamic practice, we firmly believe in the power of learning through experience. We are dedicated to fostering the next generation of architects and designers by teaching, mentoring, and providing real-world opportunities. This not only helps develop well-rounded, skilled professionals but also strengthens our team and the future of the industry. Supporting and investing in the educational process is a core value at 24/Three, and we are proud to play an active role in shaping the architects of tomorrow.
